Banned/Restricted List September 2011
Winner's and Loser'sPlant's and Samurai's have been the more dominant deck's in the last 6 month's and both have taken knocks with this new list.Samurai's are a deadly deck, able to one-turn kill unprepared opponents by being able to easy access any monster in their deck with Gateway of the Six Samurai, three copies of Shien's Smoke Signal and locking out their opponent's spell and trap cards by summoning multiple copies of Legendary Six Samurai Shi En in a turn. This banned list has seen both Shien's Smoke Signal and Legendary Six Samurai Shi En restricted to only 1 copy per deck. Does this mean the Six Samurai deck is now dead? Hardly, but it is has slowed the deck down restricting access to their combo pieces like Legendary Six Samurai Kagemusha or Legendary Six Samurai Kageki. By no means dead, Samurai's will have to adapt, using copies of Asceticism of the Six Samurai and a greater reliance on Naturia Barkion and Naturia Beast. Since the release of Extreme Victory plant's have been dominating the tournament scene. Being able to gain ridiculous field presence for only a few cards has been the deck's strong point, as well as being able to use cards like Pot of Avarice to do it all again next turn. But with the new banned list the plant deck has been pruned back. Lonefire Blossom, Debris Dragon, Formula Synchron and Pot of Avarice have all been restricted to 1 copy per deck with the new list, severely trimming their options and making it harder for them to use and reuse their combos. Many duelist's expected the timely banning of Sangan. This little critter has grown phenomenally in power since the release of Tour Guide from the Underworld, but duelists were shocked to see that it wasn't included the OCG Banned and Restricted List. This prompted calls for Tour Guide and Reborn Tengu will be restricted/semi-restricted, both of which are TCG exclusives so wouldn't of been on the OCG list. Neither of these cards were touched and will certainly continue to see use into the new format. Konami also seem to made a preemptive move by banning Fishborg Blaster. Fishborg Blaster makes the summoning of Shooting Quasar Dragon relatively easy and Konami have made a good move by removing this threat now before Shooting Quasar Dragon is released in the TCG. Shooting Quasar Dragon was leaked as an upcoming Shonen Jump promo at the North America Worlds Qualifier. Yea, look who's back...For those who have been in the game for a few years, may remember the release of Invasion of Chaos, a beast of a set that brought us the two Envoy monsters, Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End and Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning. This brought about the age of Chaos, with players restricting their decks to include only Light and Dark attribute monsters to accomodate these two. Proving too powerful, both were eventually banned. But Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning is back, bringing the nostalgia of a historic format with it. So what's changed?
