Conflux Top 10

Welcome to my first Magic related article! Like everyone else I've been scouring the latest set trying to look for the new gems that are going to shape the new format, I've made a top 10 list mainly focusing on standard.

10th – Path to Exile
First of all I really don't like this card, but from what I have been hearing it has been getting A LOT of attention, personally I think it is too situational to be consistently run main deck you often are in situations where you just don't want to play this card which I really don't like. It is on the list because of the attention it has been getting, which in turn means it will have an effect on the metagame as people will play it and 5 color decks will have to play some more basics!

9th – Celestial Purge
I really like this card, efficient, simple and solves a lot of problems! This thing gets rid of a lot of big cards in the format, Bitterblossom, Demi God, red Ajani and possibly some new cards this set like Scepter of Fugue and Shambling Remains.
8th – Shambling Remains
Red based aggro decks are really getting a glut in their 3 drop slot, blighting, Ram gang and Gouger! I think this guy may still find a slot, 4 power is really scary on turn 3, and when he comes back you can't even counter it!
7th – Nyxathid
I really like this guy, not only does he have the whole "build around me" feel, possibly making a new archetype like last seasons tarmo rack, but he could potential be a potent sideboard card vs burn based strategies, getting bigger every time they point a burn spell at him and once they are in top deck mode either stabilizing the board or finishing the game quickly in your favor.
6th – Maelstrom Archangel
This Angel may be the new finisher for 5 color control variants, some what tough to kill and a absolutely devastating ability when she hits, getting a free cruel ultimatum is obviously the dream, but simply getting a free mulldrifter creates a lot of momentum in your favor as well.
5th – Lapse of Certainty
White based aggro is really popular and strong in standard at the moment and this gives them a flexible tool to fight the amazing 4 drops in the format, Cryptic Command and Wrath of God. This is a card all control players will have to worry when trying to stablize with a timely Wrath of god or cryptic buying a turn.
4th – Knight of the Reliquary
This guy does a lot, his abilities are obviously very synergistic, I'm not really sure where he fits in the current metagame but there are a lot of great lands for him to search up and they come into play untapped so if you float mana then sacrifice the land you net mana every time you activate the ability!
3rd – Noble Hierarch
The functional reprint of birds of paradise which has always been a tournament staple is bound to get a lot of play, exalted looks underwhelming but is a subtle but powerful effect, adding one damage to attackers is more then birds can do and making your guys bigger to get past potential blockers is huge.
2nd – Scepter of Fugue
A really powerful effect, costed efficiently which is the hallmark of competitive cards. I have a feel this is going to be the bane of unprepared control decks, if it wasn't for Bant charm which can be easily played maindeck I would have this card as number 1.

1st - Banefire
Just wow! This card does so much in the current format which is dominated by Cryptic Command, I expect to see this in a lot of decks, not only the aggro decks but even the control decks, having an uninterruptable way to just finish the game is going to be very strong and I expect it to be the cause of a lot of heartbreakers.
